A flow spreader, of the type in which a plurality of pipes arranged in a plane feed the paper stock into one end of a wide, thin conduit disposed in a plane substantially perpendicular to the plane of the pipes, the stock flowing through the conduit onto the Fourdrinier wire, has the ratio of the flow area of the conduit between centre lines of adjacent pipes to the flow area of each of the pipes between 1.1 and 1.7 and preferably 1.5. The pipes which are preferably of circular cross-section may be disposed above or below the conduit, and are connected to a tapered, stock-supply pipe. The flow spreader may be incorporated into an exerting headbox. |
