[Also in Division B8] Spray painting apparatus includes a spray booth and endless belt conveyor mechanism for transporting articles through the booth with means for directing a masking tape into overlying relation with the conveyor belt. In the arrangement shown articles are fed down chute 30 on to conveyor belt 12, driven by roller 38 from motor 40, and are conveyed thereby through paint spray 'booth 18 having sprayers 76, drying oven 22, further spray booth 20 and oven 24 and are then fed on the discharge chute 32. To protect the exposed portions of belt 12, a masking tape 42 is directed from reel 44 and is led in overlying relationship with the belt 12 through the spray booths and is wound up on take up reel 52. The tape may have pressure sensitive adhesive on one or both its surfaces for pressure adhesion of the articles to the tape and of the tape to the belt, pressure being applied by roller 70. A reserve masking tape reel 62 and reserve takeup reel 64 may be provided. |
