[Also in Division H2] A circuit for producing a signal having a predetermined magnitude relative to an input signal comprises two transformers across whose secondary windings in series the desired signal is produced, one primary winding receiving the input signal and the other primary being supplied by a " control signal " which is obtained from the first transformer (e.g. by a tertiary winding) but is smaller than the input signal. The second transformer thus steps up the control signal and adds it to the input signal so that the input/output ratio can be set accurately by adjusting the turns ratio of the second transformer. This adjustment is facilitated by threading the windings through toroidal cores. For greater precision, a second control signal can be fed from the second to a third transformer whose secondary is in series with the other two. A plurality of output voltages of different magnitudes can be obtained by providing a corresponding number of secondary windings on the transformers. These can be used as sources of independent reference voltages or can be applied to a selector switch to give an output variable in steps. The arrangement can be used as a stable source of reference voltages for comparison with an unknown voltage in a difference amplifier (Fig. 2, not shown). If the unknown voltage is D.C. an intermittently operating switch is included in the primary circuit of the first transformer (Fig. 3, not shown). |
