1,021,163. Calculating apparatus: selective signalling. MONSANTO COMPANY. May 7, 1964 [June 3, 1963], No. 19063/64. Headings G4A and G4H. In an arrangement for deciding whether the function x-ay falls outside a pair of threshold levels pulses 64, Fig. 3, representing x are applied to a two denominational counter 72, 88, pulses 60, representing y, are applied to a counter 54, and the resistance between two terminals 42, 46, which represents x-ay is used as one arm 34, Fig. 2, of a bridge having a meter-movement with two presettable contacts 100, 102 corresponding to the two threshold levels. The arrangement is said to be for use in a statistical quality control system in which testing of the items of a sample batch proceeds one-by-one concurrently with the plotting of a point 26, Fig. 1, representing the cumulative number of tests (abscissa) and failures (ordinate), and if this point ever falls above an upper line 22 the remainder of the batch is rejected while if it falls below a lower line 20 the remainder is accepted. The meter movement can control either an indicator or some other equipment. |
