[Also in Division C7] The cathode of a rechargeable cell comprises an alloy of palladium and mercury. The alloy is produced by adding mercury to an acidified palladium chloride solution and washing the precipitate. The alloy comprises between 3 and 21% by wt. palladium balance mercury, preferably between 9À5% and 14% palladium balance mercury. The anode of the cell preferably comprises 4-25% zinc powder balance zinc oxide. The cell is a sealed button cell with a " double top " nickel-plated steel casing as in Specification 753,090. The electrolyte comprises 39% KOH, 6À25% ZnO-balance H 2 O. The anode is covered by a regenerated cellulose layer and the cathode by a contact layer of nylon felt and an outer layer of microporous P.V.C. and a nylon felt saturated with electrolyte is sandwiched between the cellulose layer and P.V.C. layer. |
