[Also in Division F1] A valve for an hydraulic pump, turbine or pump-turbine (see Division F1) forms part of a diffuser for the machine, and when in its closed position, as shown in dash lines, an annular pad 49 thereon is sealingly engaged by a ring 42. The ring 42 is projected from housing 41 when an exhaust cock 45 is closed and a cock 44 is open, and is retracted when cock 44 is closed and cocks 43, 45 are open. If the pressure in the diffuser portion upstream of the valve should reach a high value when the valve is closed, the resulting high pressure in a compartment 46 tends to disengage the ring 42 from the pad and thereby relieve the high pressure. A ring 53 may similarly be arranged to sealingly engage an annular pad 51. |
