1,077,053. Electrophotography. INTERCHEMICAL CORPORATION. Jan. 26, 1965 [Feb. 6, 1964], No. 3327/65. Heading H1K. An electrophotographic element comprises a substrate carrying a photoconductive insulating layer comprising a photoconductor and an insulating film comprising a mixture of two partially incompatible resins other than silicone resins, which impart a haze to the element but do not exhibit macroscopic discontinuities. The photoconductor may be an oxide, sulphide, selenide, telluride or iodide of Sb, Al, Bi, Cd, Hg, Pb or Zn, also suitable are Se, PbCrO 4 , As 2 S 3 or Cd 3 As 2 . Dyestuffs may be added to sensitize the compositions. The resins which may be used are acrylic ester polymers, rubber resins, polyesters, polyvinyl acetate, polystyrene vinyl chloride/acetate copolymer, cellulose ethers/ esters or shellac. The preferred elements comprise paper coated with an organic solution of ZnO and a mixture of polyester resins. The preferred resin blends disclosed ethylene terephthalate and ethylene sebacate or adiptate nbutylmethacrylate; styrene and butadiene; and n-butylmethacrylate and isobutylmethacrylate. The method of measuring " haze " in the elements is specified. Paraffin or carnauba wax may also be present in the compositions. |
