1,191,850. Aircraft undercarriages. DOWTY ROTOL Ltd. 12 Dec., 1967 [22 Dec., 1966], No. 57467/66. Heading B7G. An aircraft undercarriage comprises a wheelcarrying leg 11 retractable by turning about a pivot 12, a folding strut comprising two elements 13, 15 hinged together at a joint 12 and connecting a pivot 14 on the leg to a pivot 16 on the aircraft, the elements 13, 15 being substantially in line when the undercarriage is lowered, a toggle linkage 18, 19 connected to the folding strut and arranged when in line to maintain the strut elements 13, 15 in line, power-operated means 46 to retract and lower the leg, and a telescopic device 22. This device comprises a spring 36 which acts when the leg is lowered to maintain the toggle linkage in line, a first fluid pressure operated member 29 which acts when retraction is selected to compress the spring, relieving the toggle linkage, and a second pressure operated member 31 which acts when retraction is selected, to fold the toggle and thus start to fold the strut and raise the leg. The undercarriage may retract sideways and may be locked in the retracted position. The means 46 may comprise an hydraulic jack having the fluid inlet 51 for extending the jack interconnected via pipes 54 with the fluid inlet 34 of the telescopic device 22. The leg 11 may be shock-absorbing and may carry a pair of wheels 10 side by side. |
