1,247,065. Magnetic recording medium. FUJI SHASHIN FILM K.K. 11 Feb., 1969 [12 Feb., 1968], No. 7344/69. Heading H1H. A magnetic recording medium comprises a support bearing a layer composed of magnetizable particles dispersed in a binder made by mixing an amino resin, which is a condensation product of an amino compound and an aldehyde, with a polyisocyanate. The amino resin may be derived from aniline, o-toluidine, N- benzylamine, α- or #-naphthylamine, urea or melamine, together with formaldehyde, furfural or benzaldehyde. The resin may be modified, e.g. butylated melamine/aldehyde resin. Many polyisocyanates are specified. The magnetic material may be γ-Fe 2 O 3 , Co-containing y- Fe 2 O 3 , Co-containing Fe 3 O 4 , Zn x Fe 1-x Fe 2 O 4 , where 0<x<1, CrO 2 , or alloys of Fe-Co-Ni, Fe-Co-Cu or Co-Ni. In examples, polyethylene terephthalate films coated with heat-cured magnetizable compositions are calendered to produce a glazed finish, and then slit into tapes. |
