A gas filter element comprises a stack of longitudinally pleated sheets of filter paper, each joined at one end to the sheet above and at the other end to the sheet below, the ends which are not joined being spaced apart to form the inlet and outlet faces of the element. In Fig. 2, the sheets are initially separate, but in Figs. 3-5 (not shown) each pair of adjacent sheets is one piece, folded before pleating. The element is located in a housing within a peripheral frame which may be straight sided or of sawtooth form (Figs. 8-10, not shown). Fig. 12 (not shown) illustrates how adjacent ends of sheets and spacers 17 are secured together by dipping in thermosetting material. Fig. 11 (not shown) illustrates an alternative form of spacer. The pleats may include angles of 60 degrees. |
