A method of winding a wire 4 on to a support 1 having a substantially circular cross-section comprises passing the support through clamping means 2, which rotates the support about, its longitudinal axis, and through a non-displaceable winding-means 3, the clamping force of the clamping means 2 being greater than a clamping force of the winding means 3. The support 1 is rotated-by the clamping means 2 so that a wire 4, which is mechanically fixed to the support, is wound on to the support by the winding means 3. The support is displaced axially by the increasing diameter occurring in the winding means and by the common tensile effect occurring because of the introduction of wire for the formation of convolutions 5. The wound body is then rolled by rolls 6 so that the individual wire convolutions are forced into an insulated surface layer of the support and are spaced from one another. More than one wire may be simultaneously wound on to the support. |
