AUTOMATIC GAIN CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR INFRARED RECEIVER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic gain control circuit for an infrared receiver that can be adapted for the communication rate of IrDA communication, that is, higher than 100 Kbps to 16 Mbps or lower.

SOLUTION: An optical receiver includes an optical detector, coupled with a gain section having a variable gain stage. The gain stage provides an output voltage signal. A digital automatic gain control circuit is coupled with the output voltage signal and provides a digital output value, to at least the variable gain stage. The gain of the variable gain stage is set in accordance with the digital output value.
