PRODUCTION OF 3,4-DIFLUOROBENZONITRILE

PURPOSE:To obtain a method for producing 3,4-difluorobenzonitrile in high yield by suppressing the formation of monofluorobenzonitrile as a by-product which is extremely difficult to separate and purify from the objective compound. CONSTITUTION:3-Chloro-4-fluorobenzonitrile is made to react with an alkali metallic fluoride in the presence of a quaternary phosphonium salt catalyst or a pyridinium salt catalyst without a solvent to produce the objective 3,4- difluorobenzonitrile.
