摘要 1,194,567. Disc brakes. BENDIX CORP. 24 Aug., 1967 [1 Sept., 1966], No. 39068/67. Heading F2E. In a disc brake having a disc 14 with a pair of friction surfaces and a pair of friction pads 50, 60 adjacent the disc, a caliper housing 26 is arranged to straddle the disc and is supported by pins and sleeves 64, 96, 82, 94 so as to be slidable axially in grooves 84, 104 of a fixed support 10, and the sleeve is slidably carried by the fixed support 10 for engagement by its respective ends with the caliper housing as it moves axially transversely. A clearance (AB, AC) is provided between the end of the sleeve 82 and the caliper housing 26. This allows limited movement of the housing relative to the fixed support 10 due to lateral displacement of the disc 14. Seals (92, Fig. 6, not shown) are provided at the ends of the sleeves 82 to retain lubricant between the sleeves and pins and to prevent dirt and other contaminants from entering. The sleeves 82, 94 slide in grooves 84, 104 in circumferentially spaced arms 22, 24 of the fixed support 10. Locking screws (78, Fig. 4, not shown) pass through opening (80) in the caliper housing and engage the pins 64, 96 to prevent these pins from sliding within openings 70, 72 in the caliper housing 26. Rattle of the brake members is prevented by springs 106 and 110 which bias the housing 26 so that the manufacturing tolerances of the parts occur to give spaces CD and EF. The spring 110 is bifurcated at its free end 114. The brake pad 50 is attached by projections 52 on the backing plate (56, Fig. 5, not shown) to the caliper housing 26. The other pad (63), Fig. 2 (not shown), slides in the fixed support 10 and is acted on directly by a piston (36) of a fluid motor (28). The piston (36), cylinder (38) and seal (40) are constructed so that the friction between the seal and the piston controls the new starting position of the piston as it moves towards the disc due to pad wear. Also as pad wear occurs the sleeves 82, 94 are repositioned in their respective arms 22, 24 in one direction only and are not shifted back due to the spring loading of the anti-rattle springs 106, 110 so as to provide automatic wear adjustment.
