The platform is initially in a position P 0 and on approach of a loaded carrier is raised to position P 1 by a chain 48 driven by an electric motor (not shown) whereupon a lug 16 on the approaching carrier engages a dog 41 on a chain 42 which is connected to the chain 48 and thereby drives the platform through its unloading path in synchronism with the carrier. The loading of the carriers is achieved by turning the carriers through 180 degrees and substantially reversing the above procedure.
