[Also in Division G2] Apparatus for the measurement of ultraocular pressure comprises a generator of fluid pulses for directing fluid pulses at an area of the cornea, a light source directing a light beam at this area, and a light detecting means to detect and indicate quantities of flux from the light source reflected by the corneal area as a function of the time during which it is transfigured by the fluid pulse. The fluid pulse is provided by a piston 10 reciprocated in a chamber 6 by an actuator 12, which piston 10 forces air pulses out of a tube 8 disposed coaxially in a lens system 16. Light is directed from a source 30, Fig. 2 through a condensor 32 and collimator 36 in a horizontal plane and at an angle onto the cornea 2. Reflected light is directed by a lens 38 onto a light detector 42 which is connected to a readout instrument 44, such as an oscilloscope. An alignment system is provided, including a light source 24 directing light onto a beam splitter 18 which directs the beam through a transparent window 14 and lens system 16 onto the cornea, reflected light passing back through a reticule 20 to an observer 4. |
