The invention comprises monoazo dyes of general formula <FORM:1073380/C4-C5/1> in which A is a diazo component radical (benzene, naphthalene or heterocyclic), X is hydrogen or a group capable of forming metal complexes or may be converted to such a group, and is in o-position to the azo group, R1 is hydrogen or an alkyl group of 1-5 carbon atoms which may be substituted, R2 is hydrogen or a substituent, and n is 1 or 2, and metal complexes thereof. The metal complexes (copper, chromium, cobalt) may be symmetrical or asymmetrical 2:1 complexes which may contain other azo dyes or azomethine compounds. Conventional methods of coupling and metallization (including oxidative metallization) are employed. Many examples are provided, the dyes give green, brown, black colours on wool, polyamides, polyurethanes, silk and polyolefines.ALSO:In Example 120 synthetic polyamide material is dyed in presence of a naphthalene-formaldehyde condensation product, an alkylphenylpolyglycol-ether and a dyestuff of formula: <FORM:1073380/D1-D2/1> a grey shade being obtained. |
