In an axial piston motor or pump, drive shaft 14 and cylinder block 16 are mounted independently in housing 10 and drivingly coupled to permit slight axial and transverse movement of block 16. Shaft 14 is supported by ball bearings 13 and a plain or needle roller bearing 15. Block 16 is supported by a hydrostatic bearing 21 having peripheral grooves 21a connected to highpressure port 19 via fine bores 21c and passage 10a, and by a hydrostatic bearing comprising part-spherical faces on the block and valve plate 11. The valve plate face has grooves (11a), Fig. 2 (not shown) connected through fine bores (11c) and groove 1 to high-pressure port 19. The valve plate is secured to housing 10 by bolts (9) and is angularly adjustable. The valve plate and cylinder block faces alternatively may be flat and the block supported by bearings 21 at both ends. Portion 14a of drive shaft 14 has a non-circular cross-section, e.g. splines or flats, and block 16 has a bore of corresponding cross-section but of larger dimensions to permit relative movement. Pistons 17 may be spring- loaded against cam-face 12a. |
