The invention comprises anthraquinone dyestuffs of the general formula wherein R 1 is an optionally substituted aromatic, aliphatic, araliphatic or cycloaliphatic radical, and R 2 is H or an optionally substituted aliphatic radical e.g. by OH, CN, F, Cl, Br, sulphato, aryl or C 1 -C 6 alkoxy. Preferably R 2 is H and R 1 is an optionally substituted benzene radical. They are prepared by reacting 1 - iso - propylamino - 4 - bromo - anthraquinone 5-sulphonic acid or a salt thereof with an aromatic, aliphatic, araliphatic or cycloaliphatic amine of the formula HNR 1 R 2 where R 1 and R 2 are as above, preferably in aqueous medium in presence of copper or copper salts as catalyst. The products may be halogenated or sulphonated and any amino groups acylated. The dyestuffs colour wool, silk and synthetic polyamides in blue and green shades.
