[Also in Division A5] The invention relates to carbamoyl-thio compounds of the general formula and salts thereof, in which R 1 and R 2 are alkyl groups having up to six carbon atoms or R 1 and R 2 together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached form a heterocyclic ring. Compounds claimed per se are: 1,3-biscarbamoylthio - 2 - dimethylaminopropane; 2,3 - bis - carbamoylthio - 1 - dimethylaminopropane; 1,3 - bis - carbamoylthio - 2 - piperidinopropane; 1,3 - bis - carbamoylthio - 2 - morpholinopropane. The compounds may be prepared by (A) passing excess hydrogen halide into a solution or suspension of lower aliphatic alcohol containing a compound of formulµ (II) or (II)1, then, preferably after heating, distilling off the alcohol from the resultant mixture or (B) by passing excess hydrogen halide into an aqueous solution or suspension containing a compound of Formiµ (II) or (II)1, or (c) by dropping a compound of Formulµ (II) or (II)1 into concentrated sulphuric acid containing from 15 to 20% (V/V) of water, then pouring the mixture into cooled water. The compound obtained is a salt, and it may be converted into the free base in known manner.
