1,233,691. Stress measurement. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Dec.16, 1969 [Jan.10, 1969], No. 1731/69. Heading G1W. The stress in a concrete structure e.g. a pressure vessel is measured by means of a member 7 set into the wall of a bore in the concrete. Member 7 comprises two elliptical metal rings 9 and 10 at right angles to each other, each having a plurality of hooks 11 to key into the concrete. Each ring also has its inner surface shaped as a knife edge 9a, 10a and the diameters of the rings are measured across the knife edges using calipers inserted through bore 5 to determine the stress in the concrete. The member 7 is mounted in a steel thimble 6 having a cover-plate at the end of the bore. A single circular ring may be used instead of the crossed elliptical rings. A transducer may be employed to determine the deflector of the rings. |
