A loud-speaker has a magnet assembly including an annular magnet 1 and annular polepieces 2, 3 so as to form an annular air gap 4, and the moving coil 9 is attached to the periphery of the dome-shaped diaphragm 8. Other arrangements for the magnet assembly are possible e.g. the magnet may be formed by two rings (12, 13) joined by a polepiece (14), Fig. 4 (not shown), or the magnet may be a ferrite ring of rectangular cross-section (18) and the polepieces (19, 20) shaped to give the same cross-sectional shape to the magnet assembly conduit as in Fig. 1, Fig. 5 (not shown). The diaphragm is suspended elastically by means 10 and has a damping suspension 11 of foam rubber straps, which comprises in plan, Fig. 3 (not shown), a central annulus and a cross-like arrangement of four straps. |
