The invention comprises thiophosphorus acid esters of the general formula in which R 1 is a C 1 -C 4 alkyl or alkoxy radical which may be substituted by halogen, R 2 is a C 1 -C 4 alkyl or haloalkyl radical, X is O or S and Hal<SP>1</SP> and Hal<SP>11</SP> which may be the same or different are Cl or Br atoms. They may be obtained by reacting R<SP>1</SP>.P(X)(OR 2 )SM with preferably in the presence of an organic solvent, the symbol M being a monovalent metal equivalent or an ammonium group and Hal, Hal<SP>1</SP> and Hal<SP>11</SP> being Cl or Br atoms. The products have insecticidal and acaricidal properties, and in some cases, rodenticidal properties. They may be used in admixture with liquid or solid diluents or carriers, optionally with the use of surface-active agents, and such mixtures may be in the form of solutions, emulsions, emulsifiable concentrates, suspensions, powders, pastes, or granulates. Chloromethyl - 1 - bromo - 3 - chloropropyl thioether (BrCH 2 .CH(CH 2 Cl)S.CH 2 Cl) is obtained by dropwise addition of 1-bromo-3-chloropropylmercaptan-(2) to a mixture of paraformaldehyde, concentrated HCl and benzene and separating, washing, drying, and fractionally distilling the benzene solution. |
