A thread rolling machine includes two rolls which are mounted in a common plane and rotate in the same direction at different peripheral speeds, one of the rolls being mounted on a carrier which is pivotable to a limited extent about an axis at right angles to the roll axis. Conveniently, three rolls 15, 12 and 16 are provided, the central one being fixed and being rotated at twice the peripheral speed of the outer rolls. The helix angle of the central roll is half that of the outer rolls in order to equalize wear between the three rolls. The carriers are of similar construction, the lefthand one being carried by an axle 6 for limited rotation within a slide 4. The slide is movable against an adjustable stop 8 to determine the spacing between rolls 15 and 12, and includes extensions 35, 36 which carry adjustable stops 27, 28 and springs 31, 32 for determining the degree of oscillation of the roll and its holder. Blanks 43 are gravity fed between the rolls and are delivered in directions 46 and 47. |
