Any errors in the position of a character image projected from matrix 13 by lens 14 on to film 17 are connected by a pair of lenses (shown dotted) movable with respect to the optical axis. A required character is selected from the projected array by optical wedges 15 and mask 16. Use of wedges 15 gives rise to errors in the horizontal and vertical position of a selected character on film 17. Such errors are eliminated by a first horizontally movable lens and a second vertically movable lens (both shown dotted). The lenses are moved appropriate amounts by solenoids and mechanical linkages the amount of movement required for each character of the matric having been programmed into the device.
