1318521 Coated sheet materials STOREY BROS & CO Ltd 14 April 1970 [22 April 1969] 20577/69 Heading B2E [Also in Division B5] A PVC sheet, suitable for vacuum or blow forming into an article having a uniform rather than patchy appearance, has a surface layer including a particulate filler. The surface layer may be made from a solution or emulsion of an acrylic or methacrylic resin, a non- plasticised high molecular weight vinyl chloride polymer or copolymer, a cellulose derivative or mixtures thereof. A preferred material is a mixture of acrylic and methacrylic resins with a copolymer of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate. The filler is preferably a particulate silica material. In the preferred embodiment a layer of the above preferred surface layer material including a silica filler is doctor bladed at 16 onto a release coated embossed band or paper 10, the layer being dried by passage under a hood 18. A layer 19 of non- foaming PVC is then applied by blade 22 and a layer 23 of foaming PVC by a reverse coating roller 25, the layers being fused, bonded and foamed by passage under a heater 26. Finally the band is stripped from the sheet thus formed. |
