1291101 Vehicle rear-view mirrors DESMO Ltd 31 Dec 1969 [2 Jan 1969] 301/69 Heading B7J A rear-view vehicle mirror comprises a mirror head 39 carried by a support arm 13 mounted on a base 17 securable to a vehicle and is characterized in having two joint means which are coupled so that when the mirror head 39 is swung about a swing axis from an outboard in use position to an inboard position the mirror head simultaneously rotates about a pivot axis to lie substantially flat against the surface of the vehicle. In Fig. 1 the joint means comprise a cylindrical projection 15 of the support arm 13 terminating in level gearing which engages with gear teeth on an upper wall 23 of the base 17, the base having a bore housing a helical spring 25 urging an indexing member 24 against a pin 28 on a spindle 26, the head 27 of the spindle 26 being journalled to receive a shaft 16 fixed in the arm 13, washers 32 ensuring correct spacing for engagement of the gear teeth. The spindle 26 and the shaft 16 define the swing axis and the pivot axis respectively, the degree of rotation about the two axes being in a one to one ratio. The rear-view mirror may be adapted to operate by remote control, by an arrangement such as a Bowden cable or by electrically or fluid-pressure operated means, also the ratio of rotation about the two axes can be varied by altering the angular relationship of the shaft and spindle. |
