The invention comprises compounds of the formula where X<SP>1</SP> is Cl, Br or I, R<SP>4</SP> is methyl or ethyl, R<SP>5</SP> is H or methyl and R<SP>6</SP> is methyl or, when R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>5</SP> are each methyl, R<SP>6</SP> may be ethyl or npropyl, and acid addition salts thereof. The compounds are prepared by halogenating a compound of the formula or by reacting and methyl isocyanate, X<SP>3</SP>CONR<SP>6</SP>CH 3 or R<SP>5</SP>R<SP>6</SP>CONR<SP>5</SP>R<SP>6</SP>, or by converting a thioureido compound of the formula into the ureido compound, where Z is Br, Cl, I or H, R<SP>12</SP> is alkyl of 1-6 carbon atoms or aryl, X<SP>3</SP> is Cl or Br and T is the acid residue of a reactive ester and subsequently halogenating those compounds wherein Z is H. The compounds are used in herbicidal compositions. |
