A demand regulator for a gas-breathing system arranged so that the regulator may readily be replaced, comprises a housing 11 for the regulator proper and having an inlet and an outlet for breathable gas, and a holder 12 having inlet and outlet conduits 15, 17 secured to it, or integral with it, the housing being adapted to be detachably mounted in the holder in an operating position in which its inlet and outlet are in fluid communication with the respective conduits. As shown, the demand regulator receives oxygen from an aircraft supply through an inlet hose 15 and provides the regulated oxygen through the outlet 17 to an aviator's breathing mask, the holder 12 of the regulator being suitable to be worn on the aviator's clothing. The housing 11, which is shown as partly separated from the holder, is provided at one end with slots 20 which removably mate with hinge pins 19 on the holder, and at its other end with two latches 24 which engage with two post members 23 on the holder. The latches 24 are spring biassed apart but, when the housing is open from the holder, the latches are held towards each other (as in Figure 3, not shown) by spring loaded stop members 31 which are actuated by the post members 23 when the housing is closed on the holder so that the latches move apart to engage under head portions 29 on the post members. The housing is opened from the holder by manually moving the latch members together. In the closed position of the housing and holder (see also Fig. 7, not shown) a spigot 33 opens a valve (34) in the oxygen inlet to the holder so that the oxygen passes through a passageway in the spigot and into the regulator proper. A rubber seal member (44) is provided between the outlet (42) from the housing and the outlet passage (40) from the holder. A coupling may be provided in the inlet hose 15 so that when the holder is worn by the aviator, he may release himself from the supply. |
