A 13# - hydrocarbyl - 17α - hydroxy - 8,14- secogona - 1,3,5(10),9(11) - tetraen - 14 - one optionally containing further substituents is obtained in optically active form by treating a 13 - hydrocarbyl - 8,14 - secogona - 1,3,5(10), 9(11) - tetraene - 14,17 - dione optionally containing further substituents with a microorganism of genus Kloekera or Saccharomyces. 3 - Methoxy - 1,3,5(10),8,14 - estrapentaen- 17α-ol and the 13#-ethyl homologue thereof are prepared from 17α-hydroxy-3-methoxy-8,14- secoestra - 1,3,5(10),9(11) - tetraen - 14 - one and the 13#-ethyl homologue thereof respectively by treatment with HCl in methanol. |
