Corrosion of metals by an acid solution which may be a cleaning solution is inhibited by adding an N-aliphatic hexyhydropyrimidine-2-thione having the formula: - where R is an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical having from 6 to 22 carbon atoms. The inhibitor is added in an amount from 10 to 50,000 parts per million of the acid solution. The following acid solutions are referred to: - sulphuric, hydrochloric, citric, phosphoric, and sulphamic. A quaternary ammonium compound may also be added. |
