A radial cord carcass pneumatic tyre has a braced tread 5 extending at least on one side to a plane X-X located axially outwardly of the plane Z-Z parallel to the mid-circumferential plane Y-Y and tangential to the adjacent sidewall 4, the tread extension being reinforced by parallel cord plies running in at least two directions. An off-the-road tyre preferably has the tread extended on both sides, but a car tyre tread is extended on the outboard side only. The central part of the tread has grooving normal to the particular tyre and the extensions are so grooved as to increase traction. |
