A compressor or like turbomachine blade has a central core 18 formed by parallel, bonded fibres extending longitudinally of the blade and a metal skin 20 surrounding the core and bonded thereto. The fibres may be of glass, graphite or boron and the skin 20 of titanium or steel, the skin being bonded to the core by folding it about the leading edge of the core and then placing the assembly in a mould. The modules of elasticity of the skin maybe less than, or approximately equal to, that of the core. The core may be hollow. As shown the blade is a stator blade having notches N for attachment to root portions, but the blade may also be used on a rotor. |
