In a two-for-one twisting machine an endless conveyor capable of being driven continuously or intermittently at different speeds surrounds the machine below the level of the spindles 6 and is equipped with mandrels 22 or other bobbin receiving means for carrying fresh delivery bobbins 5 with or without spindle bobbin carrier units, the spacing between the mandrels being the same as the spacing between the spindles; thus the bobbins or bobbin units are conveyed to the spindles to be donned by hand. Fully wound bobbins 17 can be carried away on the empty mandrels 22 and supplementary mandrels 22a are provided on which empty tubes can be conveyed to the spindle stations. The conveyor consists of a chain 19 running in a channel 23 and driven by a wheel (20), Fig. 2 not shown in the bottom of the transmission unit 1. A further conveyor may be provided above the machine to carry away fully wound bobbin 17. Moistening the packages Moistening agent can be supplied to brushes which engage the tops of the bobbins on the conveyor as they move to the spindles. The moistening agent supply arrangement includes a compressed air source and a dosage device which is actuated by a contact deflected by a pin on each mandrel 22. In a further form, the moistening agent is sprayed onto the package which in the moistening zone is surrounded by a hood and housing; means are provided to collect unused moistening agent. A nozzle may be provided to spray the sides or lower parts of the packages; several nozzles may be provided. The package may be revolved during spraying (Figs. 7-10 not shown) by a friction wheel on the mandrel engaging a fixed strip on a motor driven friction wheel; alternatively a driving belt arrangement may be pivoted into engagement with the friction wheel on the mandrel simultaneous with the operation of the spraying nozzle. Threading up bobbin units Complete bobbin replacement units consisting of full bobbin, bobbin tube, spindle shaft with central thread guide passage, protective shield and shield base, may be supplied to the spindles on mandrel 22. In this case the central passage is automatically threaded with yarn as the bobbin unit passes about the drive wheel (20). In Fig. 12 not shown the mandrel (22) is hollow and is connectable to a suction conduit mounted on drive wheel (20) which conduit is raised to the mandrel by a cam as the wheel rotates. Thus suction is applied through the hollow mandrel to the central thread guiding passage to draw through the thread which has already been inserted in the top of the guide passage. In Figs. 13-15 not shown the thread is drawn through the central passage by a barbed flexible threading needle device mounted to be rotatable on the same shaft as the drive wheel (20). A pneumatic control arrangement is provided so that when the hollow mandrel comes into line with a tube through which the needle can be projected the threading device is moved with the mandrel, the needle is passed through the mandrel and the central passage so that the thread can be hooked onto the barbs. The needle is then retracted taking the thread with it and finally the threading device is rotated back to its. initial position to thread up the next unit. |
