A cartridge-actuated tool for driving fasteners into hard material comprises a plunger 11 having a portion 11b slidable in a bore 8 formed in a barrel 10 and a portion 11c slidable in a guide barrel 14 pivoted on the forward end of a sleeve 20, the guide barrel being adapted to be swung out of alignment with the plunger in order to insert a fastener T into the guide barrel. The fastener T is provided with a head (Ta, Fig. 5) which is gripped between the ends of the plunger and guide sleeve as shown. When the tool is pressed against a working surface and the cartridge C fired, the plunger shears off the head Ta and drives the remaining fastener into the surface. In order to eject the the spent cartridge, a new fastener is placed in the guide barrel, and the sleeve 20 moved rearwardly so that the head Ta abuts the plunger and moves it rearwardly until the end of the portion 11b enters the cartridge chamber and ejects the cartridge. |
