Active biocidal compsn. for use in disinfectants, preservatives, bactericidal shampoos, bath additives, liquid or solid soap, cosmetics and personal hygiene prepns. consists of a synergistic mixture of (a) 1-20 wt. %/wt. mixtures of betaines: R1-CO-NH-CH2-C'2-CH2-N+(CH3)2-CH2COO- (where R1 2s 7-17 C alkyl and compsn. contains betaines with alkyl gps. of different C no.), (b) 1-8 wt. %/wt. mixture (b1) ethers: R2-O-R3 (where either R2 and R3 are benzyl or together they denote the ring (I): and/or (b2) aldehydes R4CHO (where R4 is C6H5, C6H13, (CH3)2C=CHCH2CH2-C(CH3)=CH- or (CH3)2C=CH-CH2-CH2-CH(CH3)-CH2-) and/or (b3) ketones CH3-CO-R5, (where R5 is C9H19 or naphthyl) and/or (B4) esters R6COOR7 (where R6 is CH3- or o-OH-C6H4- and R7 is CH3 or C6H5-CH2-) and (c) 2-9 wt. %/wt. mixture alcohols R8OH (where R8 is X-CH2-CH2-, X-CH=CH2 X=CH-CH2- (where X is CH3- =CH-(CH2)2- -) or R9-C6H5 (where R9 is CH-CH3, -CH=CH-CH2-, -O-CH2-CH2- or -(CH2)n - (n is 1, 2 or 3). |
