In a stringer for a sliding clasp fastener comprising a connected series of loops which engage through a series of gaps formed by the omission of threads, parallel to and adjacent the inner edge of the stringer tape, the narrow inner portion of the tape which is separated by the gaps from the wider outer portion is bent over the loops of the elements and is narrower than the length of the loops, so that, in one construction, when the narrow inner portion of the tape is turned over the base ends of the fastener elements such portion extends only slightly if at all over such ends, and in another construction, when the narrow inner portion of the tape is folded over the head ends of the fastener elements, such portion completely or partially covers the head ends. As shown, the interconnected series of fastener elements are fed through a guide 9 to contra-rotating rollers 10, 11 and each series is then fed through pressure apparatus 13, 14 where the elements are pressed into gaps formed adjacent one edge of each of two stringer tapes, the stringers so formed thereafter passing over rollers 23 and through a locking device 24 where the stringers are interconnected before passing into a bending apparatus 25 where the tape edges are bent either, towards or away from the interlocking portions of the elements, which portions are subsequently formed by a pair of notched rollers 27, 28 comprising a pressing apparatus 26. |
