A compsn. from plant material for laboratory assessment of human blood groups is obtd. by collecting a plant contg. a phytoagglutinin nmon-specific to human red blood cells, making an aq. paste of the plant tissue and inoculating it with a bacterium, virus or fungus to convert the agglutinin into one specific for human red blood cells of a single group, collecting the supernatant liquor and/or wash liquor of the centrifuged paste to give a reagent for blood-grouping of human blood. The process avoids the need to preare agglutinins from an incompatible serum. A suitable source of agglutinin is the spindle tree, especially the seeds from the ripened fruit. A suitable organism for bioconversion is Klebsiella pneumoniae.
|
