1,270,985. Alcohols from aldehydes. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 10 Sept., 1969 [11 Sept., 1968], No. 44742/69. Heading C2C. Alcohols are prepared by hydrogenating aldehydes in the presence of a cobalt carbonyl which has been modified with a tertiary organic phosphine, using H 2 containing CO at 170- 250‹ C. and 200-400 atmospheres gauge, the volumetric ratio of CO to H 2 being maintained at 1 : 1 to 1 : 20. Examples prepare isobutanol from isobutyraldehyde, n-butanol from nbutyraldehyde, nonanols from an octene-1 hydroformylation product and 2-ethylhexanol- 1 from 2-ethylhexanal-1. Continuous and batchwise operation is described. Comparative examples use lower pressures to give lower yields of alcohol. |
