As shown, layer 4 is provided on the outside of roller 3 and is absorbent to pick up and apply the developer. In Fig. 4 (not shown) roller 3 is spaced from sheet 5 by an absorbent, dielectric belt 40 which again applies the liquid. In other embodiments sheet 5 is actually passed into the reservoir of liquid.
