<p>Title cpds. of formula (I):- (where R1 is 1-6C hydrocarbyl, R2 is 1-20C non-aromatic hydrocarbyl, Py is 2- or 3-pyridyl, and Y is H, a salt-forming cation, or an ester- or ether-forming gp) and their salts, are prepd. by reacting a cpd. R1M (where M is an alkali metal) or R1MgX (where X is Cl, Br or I) with a coumarin (II) of formula (I); (R1)2 is = 0 and, if necessary, treating a triol of formula (III) which may be formed with acid to effect cyclization. The group Y in the product may be replaced by a different group, and salts may be formed in which the salt-forming group is the pyridyl residue Py.</p> |
