Antibiotic testing - by absorbing antibiotic in porous support and absorbing bacterial culture adjacent antibiotic

The porous support (e.g. of filter paper) is star shaped and the end of each radial arm terminates in a disc. Each disc is pref. impregnated with a different antibiotics, and a bacterial culture is applied to each radial arm. The bacterial culture grows on the radial arms and the distance from the disc at which it stops growing gives an indication of the effectiveness of the antibiotic. The junction of each disc and its associated radial arm is rendered non-porous to prevent antibiotic from seeping from the discs into the radial arms and pref. the end of each radial arm is calibrated. Accurate and rapid assessment of the effectiveness of several antibiotics is achieved.
