Concn of aq maleic acid solns - by contact with hydrocarbon oxidn prods

The dil. maleic acid is contacted with the reaction gases contg. =40 g/m3 maleic anhydride, and the maleic anhydride is absorbed at 40-95 degrees C, esp. 47-57 degrees C. The process is effected continuously in an absorption-desorption column connected to a catalytic hydrocarbon oxidn. plant. Maleic acid concns. of 55-85% are obtainable.
