<p>1275515 Epichlorhydrin-modified polyamine dihydrohalide - dicyandiamide - formaldehyde resins CIBA-GEIGY AG 4 May 1970 [5 May 1969] 21444/70 Heading C3R [Also in Division Dl] A resin solution is obtained by reacting in an aqueous medium (a) an alkylene-polyamine dihydrohalide wherein R 1 and R 2 each represents a C 4-6 alkylene radical, X represents a halogen atom, and n is 1, 2, 3 or 4, (b) dicyandiamide and (c) formaldehyde in molar proportions 1 : 2 : 3-5, then adding 1-3 molar proportions of (d) epichlorhydrin and heating until a 50% aqueous solution of the product has a Gardner-Holdt viscosity not exceeding T at 25‹ C. In Example 1 di-hexamethylene triamine dihydrochloride is heated at 85‹ C. with 2 molar proportions of dicyandiamide and 4 of formaldehyde, then 1 molar proportion of epichlorhydrin is added and heating continued at 40‹ C. In Examples 2-7 the polyamine is replaced by impure dihexamethylene triamine, hexamethylene diamine, ditetramethylene triamine, tritetramethylene tetramine, tetrapentamethylene pentamine and tetrahexamethylene pentamine. In Examples 8-15 the formaldehyde is varied to 3 and 5 moles and/or the epichlorhydrin to 2 or 3 moles per mole of amine salt, and in Example 15 the salt is the hydrobromide. The solutions are added to paper pulps.</p> |
