A rubbish collecting vehicle is filled through an opening at the top end of the container. The opening is normally closed by a hinged cover plate (6) which is operated by a remote controlled hydraulic cylinder (9). Two loading levers (16-22) are hinged (26) on either side of the container wall such that when operated by hydraulic cylinders (23) a rubbish bin located in the lever slots (19) is lifted up to the level of the filler opening. There the bin is tilted about its hinge pins (15) so that the content falls into the open container. By closing the curved container cover plate (6) any rubbish in its path is being compressed so that economical loading is obtained.
