Sealing and coating compsns. based on amorphous polyolefins - for bonding bituminous roofing materials

Sealing and coating compsns. which adhere strongly to surfaces are obtd. by irradiating, with U.V. light, a compsn. comprising (a) 10-80% of an amorphous poly-alpha-olefin with a reduced specific viscosity of 0.1-4 dl/g, the polyolefin being opt. replaced by up to half its amt. by an elastomer, (b) 20-90% of a polyisobutene oil contg. >50, pref. >60% isobutene, (c) up to 15% of a chloroparaffin contg. 45-60% Cl2 and/or an aromatic bromine cpd. (d) up to 60% of an additive and opt. (e) up to 5% of a surfactant. Used in the building industry, e.g. for bonding bituminous roofing material to substrates such that the bitumen does not become brittle after exposure to atmospheric conditions. The present compsn. remains tacky for a long time and its adhesive power is so good that the substrate does not require to be pre-coated.
