The machine for attaching fasteners e.g. press studs to garments or leather articles has a punch (8) driven through a toggle linkage (3, 4) which is actuated by a pedal. The motion of the punch is utilised by the levers (5, 6) to impart an oscillating motion to the slider (14) which pushes the fasteners underneath the head (9) of the punch (8). The fasteners are stored in the drum (11) and slide down a chute to the slider (14). The punch (8) is fitted with a projection which engages a lever. This in turn opens and closes the jaws of a mechanism which grips the fasteners whilst they are being pressed into the garment.
