<p>The gearwheel type pump, motor, modified for better bedding-in can be internally or externally meshing. The modification consists of notching the tooth leading edges at intervals and functions by reducing the amount and particle size of material removed from the casing. Notches are (roughly) evenly spaced; pref. staggered on successive teeth. Ratio of notched length to tooth edge length remaining is not critical but they should pref. be equal. Notches are rectangular in plan; roughly triangular or rectangular in profile. They extend only a little way across the tooth tip and down the flank, can thus be used with pointed or short teeth. Best method of forming the notches is determined by the tooth material.</p> |
