Packaging appts. using synthetic thermoplastic tape has a movable gripper which feeds the leading end of the tape guided by the tying arm into the thermo-welding device past an auxiliary gripper and stops automatically in front of the latter. The stroke of the gripper driven by a main shaft and controlled, corresponds to the distance between the tape cutter and the sealing jaw edge remove from the cutter. Overlapping tape ends are thermowelded along the whole length of overlap.
