The active filler(s) within the pores of the grain may be a hygroscopic, a liquid or a sublimating substance covered with a sealing coating. When the active filler or fillers are within the pores, additional active filler(s) may be on the surface of the grains and when a hygroscopic, a liquid or a sublimating substance are covered with a sealing coating. The sealing coating may be an organic or inorganic polymer, and may contain elements able to react with the workpiece and/or the binder. The active filler, a metal sulphide or a metal halide. The abrasive grains may be corundum, zirconic corundum, silicon or boron carbide nitride or boride, or diamond. The binder may be a phenolic resin or an epoxy resin. Suitable active fillers are cryolite, elemental sulphur or sodium cryolite. The abrasive article may be an abrasive segment, honing stone, abrasive paper or an abrasive filler.</p> |
